Understanding PDUs
PDUs are a measure of professional development and are categorized into two primary areas:
- Education PDUs – Learning activities related to project management, including courses, webinars, and self-paced learning.
- Giving Back PDUs – Contributions to the project management community, such as mentoring, volunteering, or creating content.
According to PMI’s Talent Triangle, your 60 PDUs must be distributed across three key skill areas:
- Technical Project Management
- Leadership
- Strategic & Business Management
Step-by-Step Plan To Earn 60 PDUs In 60 Days
Week 1-2: Online Courses and Webinars (30-35 PDUs)
The quickest way to accumulate PDUs is by enrolling in PMI-approved online courses. Many e-learning platforms offer on-demand courses specifically designed to cover all three components of the PMI Talent Triangle.
- Enroll in a PDU bundle course from a PMI-approved training provider.
- Attend live or recorded webinars that provide PDUs upon completion.
- Complete self-paced learning programs that fit your schedule.
Week 3-4: Reading and Self-Learning (10-15 PDUs)
Another effective way to gain PDUs is through self-directed learning, which includes:
- Reading project management books, whitepapers, or research articles.
- Watching industry-related videos, podcasts, or TED Talks.
- Documenting your learning experience and key takeaways.
Week 5: Giving Back to the Community (10 PDUs)
Contributing to the project management community not only helps you earn PDUs but also enhances your reputation in the industry.
- Mentoring – Share your expertise by mentoring aspiring project managers.
- Blogging or Creating Content – Write articles or record videos on project management best practices.
- Volunteering – Participate in PMI chapter activities or community service projects.
Week 6: Attending Conferences and Networking Events (5 PDUs)
PMI conferences, virtual summits, and local chapter meetings offer an excellent opportunity to earn PDUs while networking with industry professionals. Look for upcoming events in your area or online and participate actively.

- Choose a Reliable Training Provider – Opt for PMI-authorized providers that offer quality courses with pre-approved PDUs.
